Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been praised by a fellow manager in the game who has decided to explain why the Portuguese tactician is called the ‘Special One’.
Mourinho signed for the Red Devils after he was sacked by Chelsea but had to wait for a while as Louis Van Gaal was still in the hot seat.
With the Dutchman trying to guide United to Champions League football, his job was even under more pressure due to Jose’s availability.
Ultimately Van Gaal failed to deliver and his FA cup trophy win couldn’t save his career at Old Trafford and the former Chelsea man quickly took over.
Since then Mourinho has met his targets and Besiktas manager Senol Gunes has explained just why he is a unique character in football.
In an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Gunes said: “What makes Mourinho special is that he is different. He does things his own unique way and stands out because he talks different from the crowd.”
Jose has been known in the media for his dull nature and failure to cooperate as enthusiastically as other managers may have and his attitude has rubbed most of the English press the wrong way.
The United manager sees the handling of the media as more of an irritating duty that is part and parcel of being involved with football in the modern world.
However, Mourinho has used the press to his own advantage several times during his career and has been keen to play mind games once or twice with his rivals.
The former Chelsea manager will have to be on the top of his game to help the Red Devils win the Premier League title this season.
