Manchester United are keeping a close eye on the progress of AS Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini, according to reports from Italy.
And Pellegrini, who spent last season on loan at Sassuolo, has emerged as a potential option following a superb start to the 2017/18 campaign during which he has claimed three assists.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb‘s Marco Conterio, Mourinho will closely monitor his progress over the season ahead of a potential summer bid.
Interest in Pellegrini falls in line with the Portuguese’s desire to add a young, forward thinking midfielder to his ranks over the summer, with FC Schalke’s Leon Goretkzka and Anderlecht’s Leander Dendoncker also emerging on the club’s radar.
United only have one regular starter in midfield under the age of 28 and Mourinho clearly feels as if some youthful zeal is needed to take this side to the next level.
And Pellegrini would add exactly that to the ranks at Old Trafford. In a team that prides itself on playing with a high intensity, the Italian has displayed an admirable capacity to move the ball through the lines and bring attacking players into the game.
Whether United opt for Pellegrini specifically is something we can hardly know, but you can be relatively sure that Mourinho will sign a player of his type next summer.
