Besiktas President flying to England to meet Marouane Fellaini to talk about a summer move – report

Turkish media report that Marouane Fellaini will be courted by Besiktas’ President as they look to bring the Belgian to Istanbul.

Sportx reported on Thursday that the club’s president Fikret Orman will fly to England shortly to meet both Fellaini and his agent and brother, Mansour, about the midfielder joining the Turkish side.

Fellaini’s current deal expires at the end of the season, meaning he will be free to discuss his future with other clubs in January, and sign a contract, potentially with Besiktas.

He’s been on-and-off linked with the Istanbul-club for some months now. Besiktas are reportedly confident of getting Fellaini to sign a pre-contract with them, according to Sporx.

Reports in England in the last week indicated that Fellaini has rejected a contract offer from United, though negotiations are ongoing.

Sporx say Besiktas president Fikret Orman will fly to England for Manchester United’s contract rebel midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

On the face of things, it may seem a good decision to finally see Fellaini leave United. Though he has been excellent and important at times under Jose Mourinho, United fans are no stranger to Fellaini’s weaknesses and know he can hamper the style of play.

But United still lack in the midfield department. Michael Carrick may retire at the end of the season, Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera are both nearing their 30s. Paul Pogba is approaching his prime and Scott McTominay is just starting out. One injury, as we have seen with Pogba’s most recent spell on the sidelines, and United would be left in a minor midfield crisis without Fellaini.

If United can find a suitable, relatively cheap replacement, then brilliant. But Fellaini is useful, hence why United are trying to tie him down to a new contract.
