Jose Mourinho has sent Manchester United scouts to watch Serbian midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic ahead of a potential €100m move in 2018.
The Lazio midfielder has been linked to Man United previously, and links are increasing further with the possibility of Marouane Fellaini leaving the club on a free transfer in the summer.
Fellaini is yet to sign a new deal at Old Trafford, and Mourinho is reportedly reluctant to sell him for a cut-price in January.
United will certainly need a new midfielder if Fellaini leaves in the summer, with Turkish side Besiktas linked. They may also look for midfield reinforcements without that development, especially with a player of Milinkovic-Savic’s quality.
He scored the equaliser for Lazio, and his importance to the side is massive. That means Lazio will not let him go cheaply.
Il Messaggero quote a €100m price tag for Milinkovic-Savic, with United’s transfer kitty known to be one of the biggest in the world.
Mourinho broke the world transfer fee record to sign Paul Pogba from Serie A side Juventus in 2016, and may have to pay a similar price for his new midfield target.
A physical presence, Milinkovic-Savic could prove to be an upgrade all-round on Fellaini, though coming at a great price.
