Jonny Evans wants Manchester United return over Arsenal or Manchester City: report

Former Manchester United man Jonny Evans is reportedly keen on returning to Old Trafford and would prefer the move over fierce rivals Manchester City or Arsenal.

Evans was involved in a summer tug-o-war with numerous clubs interested in him with particularly City’s interest widely publicised.

However, recent days has seen the Northern Irishman linked back to his former club with Jose Mourinho apparently interested in the centre-back.

Jonny left the Red Devils during Louis Van Gaal‘s era with the Dutch manager believing that the 29 year old was not good enough for the current squad.

Van Gaal shuffled his deck so to speak when he was United boss with several players of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign moving on.

According to The Mirror though, Mourinho believes that Louis made a mistake by getting rid of Jonny Evans and believes he can be of use to the Manchester United team.

Jose currently has Alex Tuanzebe, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly as the club’s first team centre-backs.

Daley Blind‘s versatility means you can also throw his name in the hat alongside the others but it’s clear that number wise United have excessive depth in that department.

However it could be that the Portuguese’s concerns are to do with the quality of his defenders or even their fitness issues.

Smalling and Jones in particular have struggled to be injury free consistently throughout their careers and it could be that Jose Mourinho is finally fed up.

Evans would represent the club’s most senior centre-back if the rumours do become true and could possibly add experience into United’s backline.
