Jose Mourinho impressed by Kieran Tierney, wants him at Manchester United: report

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on signing Celtic left-back and Scottish international Kieran Tierney after being impressed by his talent.

The left side of defence has been a problem area for the Red Devils since, arguably, experienced Frenchman Patrice Evra left the club.

Luke Shaw was heavily invested in and brought over from Southampton in the hopes of having a lengthy and successful career at Old Trafford but it’s fair to say that hasn’t happened so far.

The young Englishman has had a couple of unlucky injuries to date but has also failed to perform when fit and available for United.

In recent matches though he’s looked solid if unspectacular and Mourinho is keen to strengthen that department with the addition of Tierney.

According to the Daily Record, Jose has been impressed with Kieran and wants him at Manchester United instead of Tottenham left-back Danny Rose.

The England international has clearly been the Portuguese manager’s first choice signing but reports have claimed that Ed Woodward is unwilling to spend big to bring in a relatively injury prone player and has instead offered Jose Mourinho with younger alternatives.

The former Chelsea boss has been impressed by the Scotsman and has sanctioned a transfer for him despite rumours that Celtic will not sell for cheap.

Kieran Tierney has had a relatively good season in Scotland so far, scoring three goals and assisting seven times in 36 appearances across all competitions.

Whether Tierney’s possible move to Old Trafford means the end for Luke Shaw is anyone’s guess with Mourinho potentially wanting the pair to compete for the same spot in the starting XI.
