Manchester United are not in talks to sign Brazilian starlet Malcom from Bordeaux over the January transfer window, according to reports.
The 20-year-old, who arrived in France from Corinthians two years ago, has caught Jose Mourinho’s eye with a series of dazzling displays in Ligue 1 this season, scoring seven goals and claiming four assists.
Speculation over a potential January move to Old Trafford was fuelled when Malcom posted a photo of himself studying English on social media.
But according to M.E.N‘s Ciaran Kelly, two unnamed clubs are in contact with Bordeaux over the Brazilian but Man United are not one of them.
Jose Mourinho typically stays away from investing over the January transfer market unless the perfect player comes along and you sense that, while additions clearly need to be made, nothing will happen over the next couple of weeks.
The Portuguese has claimed that one target over the summer will “cost a lot” and you sense this mystery addition will be of a similar profile to Malcom: a creative spark, a magician of sorts – somebody capable of manipulating the ball in tight areas and rendering United less predictable in the final third.
Whether this will come in the form of Malcom or somebody more experienced remains to be seen.
