Manchester United are planning a surprise bid to sign Manchester City target Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal and will include Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the deal as well, according to reports.
The Chile international has already agreed personal terms with the Premier League leaders, who pursued him over the summer, and will reportedly earn around £250,000 a week.
But Arsenal are yet to respond Man City’s offer of £20m and Man United, in turn, have offered the Gunners £25m alongside a more lucrative package for the forward.
And according to the Guardian‘s Fabrizio Romano, Jose Mourinho is also prepared to include Mkhitaryan in the deal, although the Armenian’s wages – thought to be around £200,000 a week – could prove to be a stumbling block.
Sanchez has been destined for the exit door for some time and Arsenal were prepared to let him leave on deadline day back in September, only to renege on the deal after it became clear they couldn’t secure a replacement in time.
They are already sizing up Bordeaux’s Malcom, another target for United, as his replacement and it looks as if Mourinho – who criticised the board’s lack of ambition in comparison with his neighbours last month – has ignited a war of financial muscle with Guardiola for one of the best attackers in the Premier League.
