Jose Mourinho has all-but confirmed that Alexis Sanchez will join Manchester United in the coming days.
The Man United boss was asked about the Chilean forward, who has been on the verge of joining the Reds for the last couple of days in a swap-deal that will see Henrikh Mkhitaryan go the other way and join Arsenal.
Sanchez had looked set to join local title rivals Manchester City either this month (for around £20m) or in the summer when his contract at Arsenal expires. However, United swooped in and are now just days away from making an announcement.
“If you ask me whether [Sanchez] is coming, I think so but I have no confirmation,” Mourinho told television reporters after Saturday afternoon’s 1-0 win against Burnley.
“Expect soon or never. So close, so close, so close, if it doesn’t happen it is not going to happen. I know my people doing absolutely everything they can. I think they will be successful.”
Anthony Martial scored for the third consecutive Premier League game to narrow the gap to Man City to nine points, though the Blues face Newcastle United on Saturday evening and will look to regain that 12-point gap.
Sanchez is set to have a medical at United’s Carrington Aon Training Complex in the next 48 hours, according to Craig Norwood.
Meanwhile, Mkhitaryan has finally reached a ‘total agreement’ with Arsenal, allowing the deal to go ahead and the paperwork to be finalised.
An announcement will be expected on Sanchez joining United imminently.
