Arsenal initially wanted this Manchester United player for Alexis Sanchez: report

Manchester United and Arsenal are still locked in a transfer war amidst reports of Alexis Sanchez’s imminent move to Old Trafford.

The Chilean international has been heavily linked with the Red Devils all transfer window long and it appears confirmation is just around the corner.

Sanchez’s Arsenal contract was supposed to end in the summer but United decided to beat their competition to him by bidding for him in the current window.

The winger was certainly interested and reportedly chose the red side of Manchester instead of Pep Guardiola’s side who were keen on the player since the summer.

However, recent reports have surfaced that the straight swap between Alexis and Henrikh Mkhitaryan was as straight as it seems with Arsenal originally wanting a different player.

According to Team Talk, The Sun report that the Gunners made a ‘secret move’ for Anthony Martial before settling on the Armenian international.

Martial is considered to be one of the top French prospects in the game currently and reports claim that Manchester United absolutely refused to consider the situation.

It was also said that the former AS Monaco man was not interested in a move to the London club either and so didn’t push for the move.

Anthony has had a great campaign so far for United, consistently impressing and seemingly growing strong as the season goes on.

Some fans have been considered that Alexis Sanchez’s arrival at the club could spell the end of his run in the first team but reports have since stated otherwise.

Sanchez is expected to feature on the right wing instead, leaving the youngster space to operate from on the left wing in what makes up a seriously dangerous attack.
