Alexis Sanchez can emulate Robin van Persie’s impact at Manchester United, claims Louis Saha

Louis Saha has outlined Manchester United fans’ hopes that Alexis Sanchez can emulate former-Reds striker Robin van Persie.

The Dutchman joined Man United in similar circumstances to Sanchez. With a contract running out at Arsenal, the pair were both the Gunners’ best players and moved up north for a cut-price due to their contract situations.

Van Persie went o to immediately lead United to their 20th league title in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season at the club, easily paying back his £24m price tag. Sanchez has joined in January, but will now be expected to have a similar impact after signing a four-and-a-half year deal on Monday evening, as Henrikh Mkhitaryan joined Arsenal in a rare straight player-swap deal.

Saha hailed Sanchez’s quality, and said he’d be key in United regaining the Premier League title.

“His speed, he has no fear. It’s impossible to mark those kind of players. He can play right, left, in the middle, play behind defenders… it’s unplayable,” Saha enthused.

“When these players get players around them as well with desire to win titles,” Saha said, bringing up a key point about Sanchez’s mentality which is hugely respected.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said the Chilean acted with the utmost professionalism ahead of his move away from the club, and Sanchez’s winning mentality and drive and desire in games will hopefully rub off on his teammates.

“He can do amazing things at United,” Saha continued. “If you remember Van Persie, who also came from Arsenal and destroyed the Premier League by himself in the first season. He killed it, we hope Sanchez will do the same.”
