Romelu Lukaku has admitted that Manchester United must focus all their efforts on winning the FA Cup this season.
The biggest domestic cup competition in England is the club’s final chance this season of winning silverware.
Jose Mourinho’s side remain second in the Premier League, but are too far off local rivals Manchester City to catch up before the end of the season. Tuesday night saw the Reds knocked out against La Liga side Sevilla in an embarrassing performance.
Lukaku netted United’s opening goal at Old Trafford on Saturday evening as the Reds put in a professional, but uninspiring and boring, performance against Brighton & Hove Albion in a 2-0 win.
“We won today and now we have to look forward to securing second and going all in for the FA Cup,” Lukaku said.
It was the Belgian’s 25th goal of the season for United in all competitions. He’s now scored 10 goals in his last 14 games and is in brilliant form. Particularly recently, too, he’s led the side.
While others have hidden and performed poorly, Lukaku has been consistently brilliant in the last month or two.
Even in games where his teammates have been poor, Lukaku has been an outlet for counter-attacks and has been scoring.
That header against Brighton means Lukaku has now scored in every round of the FA Cup, and will hope to continue that run when United head to Wembley for the semi-final.
