Manchester United target and Barcelona star Andre Gomes has reportedly requested to leave in the upcoming summer transfer window.
This June the World Cup in Russia begins and it’s likely that plenty of clubs will hope to secure their signings before the tournament begins in order to avoid the inflated fees.
Players who perform outstandingly on the international stage could see their value rise and so if Jose Mourinho plans on making a move on Gomes then now will surely be the time.
The Portuguese footballer has been a target for United for some time now but no real steps have been taken to see a transfer happen from the club’s side of things
However, the former Valencia man has made his first move in a bid to get away from the Spanish club with a host of European clubs lurking.
According to the Birmingham Live, the Mirror report that Andre has told the La Liga giants’ hierarchy that he wants to leave in search of first team football.
The Red Devils are said to be looking for Michael Carrick‘s replacement and Mourinho is apparently keen on the talented midfielder.
Having failed to cut the grade at Barcelona, Andre Gomes could represent a bargain transfer and may even slot into the team seamlessly.
Manchester United veteran Carrick is set to retire at the end of the season and join the club’s coaching staff, leaving Jose with a hole to fill.
There are reportedly other transfer targets in mind but Gomes would potentially be the cheapest one considering his desire to leave and how Barcelona aren’t keen to hold onto him.
