Roma president Jim Pallota has revealed why he invited Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson to watch the club’s superb win over Barcelona.
The Italian club was written off by many neutrals due to the Spanish club hold a 4-1 aggregate lead heading into the second leg of the Champions League quarter finals.
Sir Alex was spotted in the stands watching the match rather happily, opting not to watch the Manchester City and Liverpool match that was happening right at the Etihad.
The Scotsman was also seen congratulating the Serie A club’s players following their fantastic 3-0 victory that saw them go into the semi finals of the competition on the away goals rule.
Pallota was responsible for the Ferguson’s immersive match day experience and joked with reporters in the post match reaction.
According to Metro, Jim joked: “That’s why I brought Sir Alex Ferguson, to bring good luck!”
The match between the two European giants certainly proved to be more exciting and more unpredictable than the one that happened in Manchester.
No one truly expected Roma to overturn a three goal lead but they did so in front of the man who was always labelled as a comeback king.
At the Etihad it was a case of attack vs defence with Liverpool doing everything in their power to hold onto their 3-0 first leg lead.
The match ended in the Reds favour as they secured a 2-1 win that will see them go through to the next stage of the Champions League; perhaps that’s why Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t wish to see the match!
