Sam Johnstone: Manchester United’s David de Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world

Sam Johstone has hailed fellow Manchester United teammate David de Gea as the best goalkeeper in the world as the debate rolls on.

The on loan Aston Villa man has been the Spaniard’s understudy for a while and certainly knows his teammate as well as anyone else does.

Johnstone has been at United since he was a kid but failed to successfully break into the first team with De Gea clearly the superior goalkeeper.

The Englishman doesn’t deny it and even goes a step further by claiming the former Atletico Madrid man is the best in the world.

Neutrals have debated for a while who is the world’s best in that position with stars such as Gianluigi Buffon and Manuel Neuer cropping up.

According to the Mirror, Sam said: “He [De Gea] is the best goalkeeper in the world. At United I would watch him every day. He’s not much older than me but you just pick things up from him.

“He’s very calm – that’s the one thing I’ve taken from him. But obviously his biggest quality is his shot-stopping which is unbelievable.”

Sam Johnstone‘s career with the Red Devils certainly seems to be coming to an end despite him improving on loan at Villa.

The 25 year old is said to have enjoyed his team at the club and hopes to not only help them secure promotion to the Premier League but to also turn his transfer permanent.

The move would be ideal for all parties in truth with Joel Pereira proving to be Jose Mourinho’s third choice keeper behind Sergio Romero and David de Gea.

The Portuguese manager hailed the youngster as potentially being the best in his generation and clearly rates him quite highly meaning Johnstone is likely to be fourth choice should he return to Old Trafford.

De Gea meanwhile looks set to win another player of the year award at Manchester United with him consistently putting in high performances all season long.
