Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that he will change the starting XI for the Tottenham clash from the one that started against Bournemouth.
The Portuguese manager made a host of changes for the side that travelled to the Vitality stadium but admitted the same eleven who started won’t continue on Sunday in the FA Cup semi-final.
United are set to play against Spurs at Wembley knowing fully well that it’s their only shot at glory this season after being knocked out of the other competitions.
Mourinho though did reveal two names that were certain to start in the cup competition regardless of what happened against Bournemouth on Wednesday evening.
There’s no surprise that the former Real Madrid manager rested some players whose positions were secure while testing others who needed to fight for their spot in the first team.
According to Red Rants, Jose said to MUTV: “Obviously I am going to change the team, I am not going to repeat this team.
“I gave a rest to [Nemanja] Matic, I gave a rest to Antonio Valencia, with the objective of at least having a couple of players fresh. But all of the players told me they are here and they want [to play].”
Nemanja Matic and Antonio Valencia hardly have any competitors in the first team and are clearly favoured or trusted by Jose Mourinho this season.
They do have players who can play in their positions but with respect to their teammates, they’re unable to impress enough to get their foot in the door.
