Manchester United open to selling Anthony Martial in exchange for Willian – report

Jose Mourinho is open to the prospect of selling Anthony Martial to Chelsea this summer in exchange for Willian, according to reports.

The Portuguese signed Willian for Chelsea back in 2013 and continues to admire the player, alongside implying recently that he wanted to bring a Brazilian player to Old Trafford.

Martial, meanwhile, has struggled for minutes under Mourinho since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in January and Chelsea are among the list of clubs interested in securing his signature in the summer.

And according to the Independent‘s Miguel Delaney, the 55-year-old would be prepared to let Martial leave for Stamford Bridge if it meant Willian coming the other way.

This is a deal which really could happen. Mourinho is a long term admirer of Willian and the energy, skill and discipline he offers on the right hand side – a position United need to fill – aligns closely with the qualities offered by Jesse Lingard and Alexis Sanchez.

The boss wants players who offer a particular tempo and speed of play. The aforementioned pair have provided that in recent weeks. Too often this season Mourinho has grown frustrated with the decision making of his players, and Willian, who he used to storming effect at Chelsea, would fit the mould of what he is looking for perfectly.
