The veteran midfielder is set to retire at the end of the season and the now Everton man has happily paid him tribute in a rather classy manner.
Carrick has been plagued throughout his career as being an underrated part of United’s winning machines during Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign.
The Englishman is well loved by the club’s supporters but his class doesn’t impress many others who perhaps don’t watch him on a regular basis.
Rooney though has revealed that the Red Devils’ players knew just what Michael brought to the squad and valued him as such.
Speaking about Carrick to ESPN, Rooney said: “Many people will say that he is underrated but to the lads in the dressing room, we knew his qualities and what he brought to the team. His passing ability and calming influence were a big part in us being so successful.”
Wayne himself looks set for a new chapter in his footballing career with reports linking him with a move to the MLS and DC United are said to be the closest to his signature.
Should he decide to make the move eventually, there’s no doubt the England legend will do well in the United States of America and he’ll certainly bring the eventual club a tonne more of fans.
Wayne Rooney could be set to join former Manchester United players who also made the switch to the MLS such as David Beckham and even more recently Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
