Timothy Fosu-Mensah will return to Manchester United this summer after completing a fruitful loan spell at Crystal Palace.
The youngster, having failed to breach the first team in Jose Mourinho’s opening campaign, joined up with Frank de Boer at Selhurst Park on a season-long loan.
And he has enjoyed a hugely beneficial spell in South London, producing a series of bullish performances at both centre back and full back, making 24 appearances in total.
Fosu-Mensah took to Instagram to express his gratitude to Palace for helping him develop as a player.
What a season! There were ups and downs, but one thing is for sure: I have learned so much and it was such a special experience to play for this beautiful club. Thanks to everyone at Crystal Palace im grateful for the opportunity this great club gave me. But most of all I want to thank our great fans. You were always there to support us – in good and bad times. I will never forget this season 🔴🔵#upthepalace!
The Dutchman can return to Old Trafford ahead of pre-season – which will, due to the World Cup, give him early chances to impress while other senior players are still away – genuinely confident of making inroads in the first team for the 2018/19 campaign.
He has fought hard this season, battling under Roy Hodgson to claw Palace to mid table security after losing their first seven games without scoring a goal. He has played Premier League football on a week-in-week-out basis, putting everything on the line each time and learning how to cope with set-backs, with pressure, with the looming threat of the drop.
Such an experience would have bolstered his technical skill-set and, more notably, his mental fortitude as well.
If he can bring the same attitude to the table as Scott McTominay has this season, Mourinho will no doubt want to accommodate him.
