Manchester United are reportedly set to activate Napoli’s Elseid Hysaj’s release clause as they step up their efforts to sign him.
Jose Mourinho is said to have been keeping an eye on the Albanian all season as he chases a replacement for Antonio Valencia.
The Ecuadorian is still a trusted member of the United team but the Portuguese manager is rumoured to be worried of his decline with age.
Rather than a direct replacement, Mourinho is looking for someone to be Valencia’s heir until he’s ready to take on the right-back spot properly.
Hysaj has caught the eye of many top European clubs since Napoli have had an outstanding campaign in the Italian division.
Accord to Metro, the Sun report that the Red Devils believe a £44m release clause is a good deal and are willing to activate it in order to sign Elseid.
The money certainly isn’t a bargain but it is considered a somewhat normal price for quality full-backs in today’s market.
Jose is hoping to invest in several positions this summer however and so it could prove to be a hefty buy nonetheless.
Whether there are cheaper alternatives elsewhere that he may be considering is unclear but Napoli seem to have their hands tied on the transfer either way.
