Craig Burley: Manchester United should absolutely sign Willian and Toby Alderweireld

Craig Burley believes Manchester United should absolutely sign Chelsea’s Willian and Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld this summer transfer window.

Jose Mourinho is said to be keen on both players and there’s no surprise considering they’re both amongst their respective club’s best.

The Brazilian has long been admired by the Portuguese manager and Alderweireld is meant to add quality to United’s defence.

Willian worked with Mourinho before in his stint with the Blues and it appears he’s chasing his former player’s signature once more.

Burley believes the Red Devils shouldn’t think twice about getting both their signatures and points to their obvious qualities as the reason why.

According to the Express, Craig said: “Yeah sign those two [Willian and Alderweireld], absolutely. Willian’s pace. He spent a long part of the season coming off the bench and then he got game time and looked great as you’d expect, so direct.

“Alderweireld obviously has been excellent beside Vertonghen until the injuries and the contract talks thwarted that. Davinson Sanchez did quite well for them [Tottenham].

“But yeah absolutely the kind of players that I think they will go for. Whether or not they’ll get them I don’t know.”

Jose teased fans earlier this month that he hopes to work with a Brazilian player once more in the future and Willian fits that bill.

However, doubters have pointed to the winger’s reluctance to leave though that could be a position that’s now given Chelsea’s lack of Champions League football next season.

Meanwhile Toby has been in a contract standoff with Spurs for months now and the rumours linking him with Manchester United could be made up.

However, more optimistic fans believe that the Belgian truly wants to team up with Jose Mourinho and is looking for a way out of London.
