Shakhtar president Rinat Akhmetov has publicly claimed he cannot state how much club star Fred is being sold for.
News of Manchester United wrapping up the deal has heated up lately and the Brazilian appears on his way to the club with the finishing touches being applied to the deal.
The talented midfielder has been on the club’s radar for a since the winter period and it now seems as though it’s all but completed.
Jose Mourinho teased fans a few weeks ago by admitting his desire to sign a Brazilian to United and it’s appearing very likely that it will be Fred first.
Akhmetov though didn’t waste any time in waiting until the Portuguese manager confirms the transfer and instead publicly discussed what was going on.
According to Football24, Rinat said: “We sell Fred in a good and strong club, do not doubt it. For what? That I can not yet say.
“I can only say that Fred will cost a potential buyer more than Fernandinho and even more than Alex Teixeira.”
Another point that Mourinho has made abundantly clear is the Red Devils’ need to sign a midfielder to replace Michael Carrick.
With talk of Marouane Fellaini leaving the club on a free transfer as well, the former Real Madrid manager may have to dip into the market again for another one.
Though that transfer seems far away from happening at the moment, Fred is a much clearer and closer deal to conclude.
