Manchester United want to sign Porto right back Diogo Dalot before the defender’s 20m euro release clause becomes active on June 1, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho has been on the lookout for reinforcements at right back and has pinpointed Dalot, who has broken into the first team this season, impressing with his energy and quality on the ball.
Reports initially claimed that Man United had met the Portuguese’s release clause but the club now believes a better deal for Dalot can be worked out with Porto.
And according to ESPN‘s Rob Dawson, United are rushing to negotiate and complete a deal with Porto for Dalot’s signature before his release clause becomes active on Friday.
This could indeed be a busy weekend for United, who are reportedly on the verge of announcing the signing of Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk. The club may want to announce the pair together like they did with Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger in 2015.
Either way, Dalot looks like a done deal – and one executed remarkably cheaply. Mourinho, forever the footballing autodidact, watches his fair share of Portuguese football in his spare time and has obviously seen something quite special in the 19-year-old during his limited time in the Porto first team.
