Chelsea forward Willian has wished fellow Brazilian international Fred well after he was confirmed as Manchester United’s first signing of the summer on Tuesday afternoon.
Man United agreed a £52m fee with Shakhtar Donetsk for Fred at the end of last week before he passed his medical at Carrington and signed a five-year deal in London across Monday and Tuesday.
Supporters will see what Fred can do for the first time as a United player at the World Cup in Russia this summer where he will be hoping to help Brazil claim a sixth triumph.
One of his teammates at the tournament, Willian, has had his say on Fred’s move to the Premier League and has spoken highly about the 25-year-old.
“He has a lot of quality (and) he can improve a lot. He’s going to one of the best teams in the world and I am happy for him. I hope he does well at Manchester United.”
Now friends, but Willian and Fred will become title rivals in the 2018-19 campaign if the forward decides to stay at Chelsea.
In fact, Willian has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford to get away from the disgruntled Antonio Conte and reunite with former manager Jose Mourinho as the United boss looks for a natural right winger.
The Chelsea star’s comments on Fred will only raise anticipation about the midfielder’s debut at the club and both men will be looking to set the World Cup alight throughout the close season before then.
