Rooney was nearing the end of his 13-year stint at Manchester United when Rashford impressively shot onto the first team scene under Louis van Gaal in the 2015-16 season.
As a Man United fan from birth and natural attacker, it wouldn’t be surprising if Rashford grew up idolising Rooney and he has named the club and country-record goal scorer as the best he’s played with.
“Wayne Rooney is the best player I’ve ever played with. A legend.”
Rashford still promises to be a very important player for the future of United as he continues to develop, but endured a frustrating 2017-18 campaign under Jose Mourinho where starts were limited.
The 20-year-old has already established himself into the England set-up and will look to impress on the big stage throughout the World Cup in Russia this summer, his second major tournament after briefly featuring at the 2016 European Championships in France aged just 18.
Rashford reminded fans of his talent when given a bit of confidence in England’s final warm-up match against Costa Rica at Elland Road, firing in a stunning opener to send Gareth Southgate’s side on their way to a comfortable 2-0 win.
United supporters will be hoping that he has a bigger role to play at the club next season, and a solid World Cup would give him a good chance in getting exactly that.
