Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has named who he expects to reach the World Cup semi-finals stage but rather surprisingly left out the likes of Spain and France.
The two European nations are considered to be among the favourites for international football’s biggest competition.
It wasn’t that long ago that the Spaniards lifted the European Championship and World Cup trophies in quick succession.
Though their fall from grace hasn’t been pretty, they’ve managed to stop the decline and slowly rebuild themselves into a top side once more.
The French meanwhile could easily build two or three sides made out of quality players but that’s not enough to see them reach the semis according to Mourinho.
According to Metro, in an interview with RT Sport Jose predicted that his home nation Portugal, Brazil, Argentina and Germany would reach the World Cup semi-finals stage.
The Portuguese manager may ambitiously be predicting that his own country would reach so far in the tournament but no one can really blame him.
Having just come off the back of a European Championship win and with Cristiano Ronaldo in as good as form as he’s ever been, who knows what could happen.
Some would argue the Western European nation doesn’t have enough depth to compete but their starting XI certainly is amongst the best.
