Manchester United target and Real Madrid star Mateo Kovacic is likely to leave according to reports from Spain.
Jose Mourinho has been linked with the midfielder since announcing his desire to focus on the club’s midfield and defence this summer.
United have already signed Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred who is expected to feature in a midfield three alongside Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba.
However, Marouane Fellaini‘s expected departure on a free means that Mourinho still needs to bring in another player to replace him.
Kovacic is expected to be one of the players that the Portuguese manager is eyeing up a move for and his desire to leave could certainly prove useful in negotiations.
According to 101 Great Goals, AS report that Mateo is likely to depart Madrid after growing increasingly frustrated with his lack of match time.
However, with Zinedine Zidane’s sudden departure from the club and the La Liga giant’s swift appointment of Julen Lopetegui, things could easily change.
The Croatian could be convinced that he’d get the desired minutes at Real under his new manager and could therefore turn down a move to Old Trafford.
Juventus are also said to be keeping tabs on Kovacic so even if this move turns realistic, there will be some competition.
