Frank de Boer signed Fosu-Mensah at the start of the 2017-18 season which carried the exciting prospect of Premier League experience, but that was heavily at risk when De Boer got sacked just 10 weeks after his appointment as Palace manager.
Fosu-Mensah impressed at Selhurst Park under Roy Hodgson though, featuring in 24 matches including 21 times in the Premier League, and he’s now back at Man United ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.
Jose Mourinho’s short-term, or long-term, plans for the 20-year-old are unknown, but the player himself has insisted that you shouldn’t take his age into account when speaking about his ambitions at the club.
He told FunX: “I do not want to hear that I am young and that my time is still coming, I want to reach the top as quickly as possible, that’s me. The top is World Cup, European Championship, Champions League final, which is the top for me, winning prizes.”
If Mourinho sees Fosu-Mensah as a right-back, FC Porto starlet Diogo Dalot’s arrival could be bad news, but the 19-year-old arriving at Old Trafford could mean Fosu-Mensah is preferred in another position.
The Dutchman spent the majority of his time at Palace playing at centre-back, so maybe that’s where he’ll continue to feature at United.
Unless he’s loaned out again before, which is a real possibility, we’ll see a fresh Fosu-Mensah during the pre-season tour of the United States.
