Marcus Rashford: Jose Mourinho is not stunting my development at Manchester United

Marcus Rashford has made it clear that Jose Mourinho, contrary to beliefs held by many supporters and pundits, was not stunting his development at Manchester United.

The youngster made 53 appearances at Old Trafford in Mourinho’s opening campaign – more than any other player – and was handed just one fewer last season.

Nonetheless, many have attacked Mourinho for not giving Rashford enough starting opportunities during the second half of the 2017/18 campaign.

Speaking ahead of England’s last 16 clash with Colombia, the 20-year-old made it clear that he was very much developing as a player under the tutelage of Mourinho.

Rashford has made 105 appearances under Mourinho. He has started in the FA Cup and Europa League final under Mourinho. He has started against every top six club, scoring against three of them, under Mourinho, playing all across the front three in the process.

For a youngster with his entire future ahead of him, that is not such a bad record in the slightest. Most players would dream of having that opportunity.

Contrast that with, say, Matteo Darmian, who only made 12 starts in nine months last season. That, right there, is what you call stunting somebody’s development. Rashford is not a player supporters need to be worried about in the slightest.
