Manchester United are reportedly preparing a bid for Stoke City star Xherdan Shaqiri as they attempt to step up their summer transfer plans.
Jose Mourinho has brought in Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant but the Swiss international represents a different option capable of playing on either flank or in behind the striker.
Shaqiri has emerged as a surprise transfer target but not one that’s entirely blown out of proportion given the circumstances at United and the transfer window in general.
Mourinho is said to have a smaller budget in comparison to his previous two seasons which is why he didn’t chase after Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and turned down an opportunity to sign a replacement for Marouane Fellaini.
The Stoke City man would represent a cheap alternative to other targets such as Chelsea’s Willian or Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale though he isn’t as glamorous.
According to Manchester Evening News, the Sun report that the Red Devils are preparing a bid in the region of £12m for Xherdan which would represent an absolute bargain.
Mourinho would surely be taking advantage of Stoke’s relegation to the Championship with the winger most likely going to want to leave the club.
Though he’s not as talented as Willian or Bale, he definitely represents value for money and would be a good addition to the current squad.
