Manchester United fans were absolutely delighted with Jesse Lingard‘s performance for England vs Sweden in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
Not too much expectations were placed on the Three Lions this tournament but a relatively easy route to the final has opened up the possibility of the impossible happening.
Lingard is perhaps the embodiment of his nation’s playing style, attitude and underdog status that has so far seen them go beyond initial expectations.
The clash against Sweden was predicted to be a tough one but England dealt with the match with relative ease, cruising through with a 2-0 win.
Jesse was at the heart of much of his side’s good play and provided the assist to Tottenham’s Dele Alli for the crucial second goal that helped them see out the match.

Apart from the player himself, a lot of the credit for Lingard’s development should go to United boss Jose Mourinho for giving him the opportunity to express himself.
His purple patch of form for his club was the key reason why he was even handed an international cap by Gareth Southgate and his performances for his country are why he’s not just involved in the set-up but is at the core of it all.
