Real Madrid star Luka Modric has backed his teammate and Manchester United target Cristiano Ronaldo to remain in Spain despite reports claiming otherwise.
The latest news on the Portuguese’s future is that he genuinely wants to leave his club with Juventus showing serious interest and have even submitted a bid.
Some even claim that personal terms have been agreed and that Madrid’s president Florentino Perez has given the green light to allow the transfer.
Ronaldo has consistently throughout the years threatened to leave the Spanish capital only to renew his contract but it’s understood that this is more serious than he’s ever been.
Nonetheless, Modric still believes, and hopes, that the world class star will stay at Real as he’s too important to lose ahead of the next season.
According to Manchester Evening News, Luka said: “Let’s see what happens. I don’t think he’s [Ronaldo] going to go and I would like him to stay because he’s the best player in the world.
“He means a lot and hopefully he will stay.”
There was always the feeling that Cristiano would eventually leave Madrid at one point in his career when even he would be unable to contribute at a high level any longer.
However, the former United man has certainly more than proved his ability to perform at the highest stage so it’s a little strange to hear the club are fine with him leaving.
Though there have been rumours Jose Mourinho is interested in signing Ronaldo, there doesn’t appear to be any real movement towards making that happen.
