Manchester United have reportedly identified Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini as a transfer target, stepping up their efforts in order to sign him.
It was understood that Jose Mourinho is still hoping to sign a midfielder despite already bringing in Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred earlier this summer.
With the Brazilian, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic expected to form a first choice midfield three pairing, it appeared as though there’s no space for another signing in that department.
However, the Portuguese manager is said to be on the lookout for a young box to box midfielder who would be somewhat happy with a rotational role.
Pellegrini is reportedly the man that Mourinho sees as the ideal transfer and is the reason why he’s no longer looking to invest in top quality midfielders such as Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
According to Manchester Evening News, Calciomercato report that the Red Devils have made Lorenzo their summer target and have been encouraged to make a move by Roma’s sporting director.
Monchi said: “There are some possibilities that we sell [Edin] Dzeko, [Kostas] Manolas or Pellegrini.”
It’s interesting that the sporting director mentions all three names but almost as though he’s only willing to part with one of them and not all three.
Dzeko is certainly not a target for United but Manolas was said to be on the radar in the same way that Pellegrini is, making for an interesting conclusion to the summer transfer window.
