Notorious journalist Guillem Balague made the stunning claim that Manchester United turned down the opportunity to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.
The Portuguese star just recently shocked the world by announcing his departure from Spain and decision to join Juventus ahead of the next season.
There were certainly plenty of rumours surround Ronaldo’s future but none more than there are usually each summer but he tends to just end up signing a new contract with Madrid.
Apparently however, the former United man requested the interest from the Italian giants to be entertained and they have officially confirmed the move.
It always seemed impossible to sign Cristiano and so many believed if it ever did become possible, the Red Devils would be the first in line to bring him back.
According to Manchester Evening News, Guillem told Radio Five Live: “Jorge Mendes [Ronaldo’s agent] rang Manchester United and PSG (about Ronaldo) and they said ‘no’.”
Ballague’s claim is a huge one if true and one that doesn’t make too much sense given what Jose Mourinho previously said of a potential transfer.
He was once directly asked whether he would consider a move for Ronaldo and claimed it would be difficult to turn down such a talent though he believes it’s impossible to get him from Real.
The move became real and Mourinho seemingly decided not to sign one of the world’s best players and focus his transfer budget on other areas.
