Ryan Giggs: Cristiano Ronaldo is obsessed with being better than Lionel Messi

Former Manchester United star Ryan Giggs has claimed that perhaps Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid for Juventus because of his obsession with being better than Lionel Messi.

The two world class players have consistently outdone each other through various times in their careers, opening up a debate that will never end over who’s the better player.

It certainly didn’t help the debate when Ronaldo left United to join Madrid and the pair constantly played against each other and the same opposition.

Their story though may be coming to an end following the Portuguese’s move to Juventus and time has caught up with them both as they’re above 30 years of age.

Giggs believes Cristiano moved on from Real to one step further than Messi as the race to prove who’s superior continues to provide fans with unbelievable moments.

According to Manchester Evening News, Ryan said on ITV: “I’m surprised that he would leave Real Madrid and go to Italy. I think it’s a big challenge for him but he’s going to a huge club.

“Having that on your CV: Real Madrid, Man United, Juventus – it’s some CV. He’s obsessed with being better than Messi.

“He has that now, that, ‘I did it in England, I did it in Spain, I’m going to do it in Italy … I did it with Portugal.’. So maybe that will be his argument when [he asks himself]: ‘Am I better than Messi?’”

Reports claimed that Ronaldo’s actual reason to leave Real Madrid was due to his unhappiness with those involved in the hierarchy of the club.

The former United man can still prove his talent at one of the biggest clubs in the world and would cement his status as a legend if he could win Juventus the Champions League trophy they so desperately want.
