Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand claims he understands just why Jose Mourinho wanted to bring Croatia star Ivan Perisic to the club.
The Inter Milan man was once linked with an imminent move to Old Trafford and the Portuguese manager recently admitted he doesn’t understand why the player didn’t join the club.
It was said at the time that United and the Italian giants couldn’t come to an agreement over his transfer fee with the latter valuing him £10m more than what Mourinho was prepared to part with.
Eventually talks didn’t advance enough for the transfer to happen and Perisic renewed his contract with Milan instead to shut down the rumours.
Ferdinand though admitted he understands just why Jose was keen on bringing the winger in following top performances for Croatia in the World Cup.
According to Manchester Evening News, Rio said on BBC: “You can see why Jose Mourinho was intent on getting him at Man Utd.”
The former Red Devil had been discussing Ivan’s first half performance for his nation in the 4-2 defeat to France in the World Cup final.
The 29 year old was on the scoresheet once more, giving his country hope as they chased the game against a bullish Les Bleus side.
Thankfully for Manchester United fans, it was Paul Pogba and France who lifted international football’s most prestigious trophy.
