Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld has responded to reports linking him with a move to Manchester United, admitting he doesn’t yet know anything about his future.
The Belgian international just recently returned following his exploits in the World Cup and will certainly be enjoying his time off.
Alderweireld has long been chased by United if reports are to be believed but the transfer hasn’t had a breakthrough after it was believed neither club can agree on a fee.
Spurs believe the defender is valued at the same price as Virgil van Dijk was which was around £75m while Jose Mourinho is said to be unwilling to part with that much money.
The centre-back fits the mould of the kind of player the Portuguese manager wants with reports claiming he’s searching for an experienced, proven defender.
According to Manchester Evening News, Toby said: “I really do not know anything yet. In my head I just go to Tottenham. We’ll see.”
Things happen fast during transfer windows though and a breakthrough may happen in the blink of an eye if either club becomes desperate enough.
If Alderweireld forces through the move a bit more than that will certainly help proceedings more but it’s expected that he won’t really do so.
Mourinho meanwhile is well stocked with central defenders though it’s fair to say some of them are quite error and injury prone.
