Angel Gomes is on his first ever pre-season tour at Manchester United and in turn had to perform an initiation song in front of teammates and staff.
The teenager son the ‘Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year’ award in 2017 and has made a couple of short cameos off the bench under Jose Mourinho.
Gomes continued to impress under Kieran McKenna – now part of the first team coaching staff – for the Under 18s last season and earned a call-up to the Reserves.
He had to deal with a different kind of pressure at the club’s hotel last night: singing ‘Valerie’ by Amy Winehouse in front of a group of people.

This is so bad it’s good. Then again, he’s gone for a universal favourite and got the whole room involved, so he can be pleased with himself.
Perhaps it is worth noting that he was one of the first – if not the first – to be initiated. He has, unlike talents such as James Garner and Mason Greenwood, tasted first team football before, and trained often with the first team.
His senior teammates clearly admire him and recognise just how devastating going forward he can be. The 17-year-old was only on the pitch against Yeovil Town for four minutes but proceeded to get supporters talking with a wonderful piece of skill on the edge of the box to leave his defender stranded on the floor.
Mourinho will expect him to show the same confidence – and better execution than seen above – against Club America on Thursday night.
