Wayne Rooney: Manchester United can challenge Manchester City

Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has revealed how the club can challenge Manchester City next season, believing they have got what it takes to do so.

Some supporters have gotten increasingly concerned with the club’s transfer business so far this summer, believing more needs to be done to close the gap.

While City themselves have only brought in Riyad Mahrez, they have a relatively complete squad that should still put up a title challenge next season.

United meanwhile have addressed the midfield and defence in Fred and Diogo Dalot respectively but Michael Carrick and Daley Blind have both departed as well.

Rooney though thinks what the Citizens did last season was exceptional and are unlikely to do so again meaning Jose Mourinho will be able to lead his men to a more serious challenge.

Arsenal and Liverpool have also invested heavily in their respective squads in different ways which has only concerned the Red Devils’ supporters even more.

Not only are they afraid of falling behind the Sky Blues even more but are worried of the teams below them closing the gap as well.

Mourinho had warned the owners the club needs a lot of investment, more so than other clubs due to the need to bring the squad up to scratch while other squads are just topping up on their existing talents.
