Manchester United fans were certainly encouraged by Andreas Pereira‘s performance vs Club America in the club’s first pre-season friendly of the summer.
The midfielder is part of the squad Jose Mourinho took with him to the United States of America and will have plenty to prove to avoid being loaned out once again.
Pereira’s quality is obvious but his issue lies in his unwillingness to fight for his spot in the starting XI, almost believing he should be guaranteed minutes.
Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Fred are expected to be the first choice midfield Mourinho will go with but the youngster performed admirably against his opponents.
Pereira needs to be play further forward! He's running the midfield from deep but Herrera and McTomoinay don't have the creativity ahead of him so the play is breaking down#MUFC

Andreas Pereira should be on the bench every game or at least starting. Think he's a really good player #mufc 🇾🇪

Don’t think Pereira should be playing deeper than McTominay. Need his creativity further forward.

Also Andreas Pereira might be our best midfielder (who wasn't just in the WC semis)

Andreas Pereira brain seems to work a bit quicker than some other United players.

Five minutes in and Pereira has already shown why he should be given a chance this season.

There’s no doubt Pereira performed well but there were certainly eyebrows raised as to why he wasn’t played further forward since his teammates are incapable of passing.
Out of that midfield three, the Belgian is the outstanding passer but still carried out his role admirably, proving he’s capable of some versatility.
It’ll be interesting to see where Andreas will be used in the upcoming season once everyone returns and Jose must make use of him this time around.
