Manchester United are reportedly confident in signing Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld despite claims negotiations broke down between the two clubs.
The Belgian emerged as a target of Jose Mourinho’s after it was revealed he was on the lookout for an experienced, proven central defender to lead his backline.
Alderweireld certainly has those attributes and it was believed talks were ongoing to get his signature even before the World Cup began.
However, negotiations broke down when the two clubs couldn’t come to an agreement on his value with Spurs asking for more than what United could part with.
It’s rumoured to have been weeks since that happened but it appears it hasn’t affected those involved in the Old Trafford hierarchy.
According to Manchester Evening News, the Independent report the Red Devils are relaxed about the ongoing drama surrounding Toby and are confident a deal can still be done.
It seems Mourinho is willing to play the long game in his bid to sign the defender and it could potentially work for him with Tottenham being criticised for not making any signings.
With the London club also in need of cash to fund their new stadium, it could all fall into place for Manchester United if they’re patient enough.
