Manchester United have reportedly reignited their interest in Bayern Munich star Arturo Vidal following a development that encouraged them to do so.
The midfielder was once a target of Jose Mourinho’s but nothing came of it as Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred was signed and presumably was going to complete the club’s midfield.
The Portuguese manager didn’t hide his interest in investing in his midfield and defence this summer but it was believed that the Brazilian would be the only signing for the engine room.
He’s expected to slot in a midfield three alongside Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, hardly leaving much room for any other stars to arrive.
Perhaps a youngster to compete with may still be on Mourinho’s radar but this latest development could prove to be too tempting for him.
According to Manchester Evening News, Bild report the Red Devils have reignited their interest in Arturo since Bayern are in the middle of a summer clear-out meaning he could cost as little as £31m.
Just where the midfielder would slot in Jose’s starting XI is pretty much anyone’s guess but it could encourage a shift in formation to make room.
Nonetheless, Manchester United will be wary of signing yet another ageing midfielder from Bayern following what happened the last time around.
