Manchester United will reportedly trigger Anthony Martial‘s contract extension perhaps in a bid to end speculation over his future at the club.
The Frenchman’s agent had announced earlier this summer than he wishes to leave Old Trafford after failing to negotiate new terms.
Juventus and Tottenham were said to be the clubs most interested in signing Martial though it was understood both were put off by United’s valuation of him.
It was also said that the attacker was not going to be let go by the club either and this latest development reflects that, at least for the time being.
With the former AS Monaco man set to start the campaign as Mourinho’s striker and a contract extension to boot, it may just be enough to convince him to remain at Old Trafford.
According to Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils will trigger Anthony’s contract extension even if he aims for a move elsewhere.
This season is arguably the youngster’s most important one in terms of establishing himself in the starting XI for good in order to get his career back on the right path.
Nothing would’ve hurt Martial more to have been left out of a France squad that would eventually go on to win the World Cup.
