Manchester United have made an enquiry regarding the situation of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alacantara, according to reports.
The club famously came close to completing a deal for the Spaniard in 2013 under David Moyes only for no move to ever materialise.
He has once again emerged on the club’s radar after it became apparent he wanted to leave the Allianz Arena over the summer.
And according to ESPN‘s Bayern Munich correspondent Mark Lovell, both Man United and Chelsea have enquired about Thiago’s availability.
New Bayern boss finds himself overstocked with midfield options: Javi Martinez, Arturo Vidal, Sebastian Rudy, Corentin Tolisso, Leon Goretzka, James Rodriguez, Thomas Muller, Thiago are all arguably capable of starting every week.
But it wouldn’t make much sense for Thiago to jump ship to Old Trafford for the simple reason that Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Fred is already the decided upon midfield, with Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera serving as back up.
A midfield trio at Chelsea comprising of Jorginho, N’Golo Kante and Thiago, on the other hand, is a terrifying prospect, and one which unfortunately makes sense.
