Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge adamant Thiago Alcantara will not join Manchester United

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has categorically ruled out the possibility of Thiago Alcantara joining Manchester United this summer.

The Spaniard came close to joining Man United in 2013, with David de Gea even attempting to convince the midfielder to join him at Old Trafford during the Under-21 European Championships.

Reports have recently suggested that United, mindful of Bayern’s excess of midfielders, had made an enquiry regarding the availability of Thiago.

Speaking to German media outlet Abendzeitung, the Bayern CEO provided United with a very clear response.

“Thiago is an important player for us and we have never once articulated the thought that he should leave the club,” he said.

“There has never been anything to the story whatsoever.”

This is essentially Rummenigge’s go-to line. I have lost count of the number of times the former Bayern player has irritably insisted that a certain player wasn’t leaving.

And that is because Bayern is not a selling club. Not even slightly. They are an institution which prides itself on being the alpha in Germany, and therefore selling players of immense talent like Thiago just doesn’t fit the bill.

Moreover, with Fred, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic the decided upon midfield for next season, moving for the Spaniard makes little sense.
