5 Players Manchester United must target to win the Premier League

Manchester United had a decent but trophy-less 2017-18 season. The club managed a to finish second in the Barclays Premier League table which is their highest finish since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club. The club also reached the final of the FA Cup where they lost to Chelsea at the Wembley Stadium.

However, the inability to land the Premier League title especially watching their city rivals Manchester City land a couple of titles in three seasons has led to growing frustrations within the club’s faithful supporters. Jose Mourinho was brought in as manager to win the Premier League. But the Portuguese has failed in his previous two seasons.

In recent Manchester United transfer news, the Red Devils will re-open their talks with Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld once he is done with the duties of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Apart from him, here are five players who Manchester United should be looking at this summer:

#1 Hirving Lozano

Lozano caught a number of eyes during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The Mexican scored the winner in the shock win over Germany in their Group F opening encounter.

Wing play has been an area in which Manchester United needs to improve. Things were supposed to get better with the arrival of Alexis Sanchez but the Chilean has failed to get his feet running at Old Trafford.

Lozano can play on either flank and will be the perfect solution to United’s problems.

#2 Willian

Chelsea winger Willian is another name doing the rounds at Old Trafford. Willian was bought by manager Jose Mourinho during his days at Chelsea from Anzhi Makhachkala.

The Brazilian winger has failed to create much of an impact at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. However, he had a fantastic season for Chelsea in 2017-18. With the current uncertainty over the manager’s seat hovering at Chelsea, it will be the ideal scenario for United to come snooping for Willian.

Spanish giants FC Barcelona are also interested in Willian. Barcelona has already had a couple of bids rejected from the London club.

#3 Ivan Perisic

Ivan Perisic was heavily linked with Manchester United twelve months back. United declined from pursuing the winger due to difference in valuation with Inter Milan, the current club of Perisic.

Perisic’s stock has only risen since and United’s problems on the wing have compounded. Perisic was one of the key players in Croatia’s 2-1 win over England in the 2018 FIFA World Cup semi-final.

#4 Alex Sandro

Juventus left-back Alex Sandro was much linked with Manchester United. The Red Devils must realise that playing Ashley Young at left-back is not the best option. Although Young has fulfilled his duties to his best, the English winger turned defender is found wanting in the big matches.=

Other left-backs in the team like Luke Shaw and Daley Blind have not found much favour with manager Jose Mourinho. Signing Alex Sandro will be the perfect solution for a problem which is plaguing the club since Patrice Evra was sold.

#5 Toby Alderweireld

Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld is linked to Manchester United according to some sources. Alderweireld had an injury-ravaged last season for Tottenham and struggled to break into the eleven when he returned. This was largely due to the form of Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez.

With him now being surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane, Alderweireld may well be tempted to move to pastures new. United have defensive problems of their own. Defenders Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof have been found wanting at different points last season. Alderweireld would help add much required leadership and steel to the defence.
