Paul Pogba has had a very impressive summer indeed, and former Manchester United defender Wes Brown predicts he’ll continue his form into the 2018-19 season.
The 25-year-old enjoyed a terrific World Cup campaign in Russia as he helped France lift their second World Cup following a number of inspired midfield performances alongside Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.
His critics are certain to pop up again once he returns to Man United from his holidays though, but Brown is optimistic that Pogba will show up this season and begin to express himself more.
In an interview with 888sport ahead of the Premier League getting underway once again next week, he said: “Pogba came back to United with this great expectation, that he had to show the world how good he is straight away.
“A lot of pressure comes with that. With that out of the way he’s coming good though we all know he can do even better.
Brown continued: “This season, especially after the World Cup that he’s had, he’s going to start expressing himself a lot more.”
Pogba has struggled to find consistency since returning to Old Trafford from Juventus in 2016 but has shown glimpses of his true class and he’ll be wanting to step up this term to prevent losing Jose Mourinho’s faith.
Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred’s £52m arrival will provide competition and hopefully spark something out of Pogba we know is in his locker, but just hasn’t been on show yet.
The World Cup should act as the perfect building block though.
