Wes Brown has made his Premier League title predictions ahead of the 2018-19 season and tips Manchester United and Liverpool to be Manchester City’s closest challengers when May rolls around.
Man City walked the league last term as they became the first team in history to achieve 100 points in a 38-game campaign, with Man United 19 points behind in second place.
Liverpool, despite suggestions Jurgen Klopp has helped them surpass United in terms of success, finished the season in fourth, 25 points off top spot.
In an interview with 888sport, Brown explained why he thinks both United and Liverpool will provide a much sterner title challenge this time: “United came second last year so I wouldn’t say they have fallen behind Liverpool at all.”
“Liverpool have a really good squad and they’ve added to that as well but as a United fan I’d be looking at United pushing on and challenging Man City.
“There are players last year who will perform tremendously this year. Sometimes it takes a little time to bed in and I’ve been there myself. It’s not just about one season and hopefully the players will improve even more.”
The former United defender certainly has been there, and many will be glad to hear what he’s had to say considering the wealth of negativity surrounding the club and, more specifically, manager Jose Mourinho at the moment.
At the moment, you’d have to say United don’t have to squad to reach those heights this season but could be with a couple more acquisitions before next week’s deadline – that seems unlikely though.
