Manchester United have reportedly received a huge boost in their chase to sign Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld after he’s said to want to leave.
The Belgian has long been a target of Jose Mourinho’s and throughout the summer the transfer has been on and off at various points.
It’s not believed to be back on with the transfer window slamming shut this Thursday perhaps accelerating the possibility of a deal.
Alderweireld hadn’t previously stated his desire to leave so it could prove useful in United’s pursuit for his signature.
The centre-back’s club have been tough in negotiations but may go into panic mode as deadline day edges closer.
According to Sport Witness, Het Laatste Nieuws reports Toby ‘absolutely wants to leave Spurs’ and the Red Devils are hopeful the claimed £65m deal can be completed before the transfer window shuts.
It seems the main issue with the transfer is the transfer fee with Mourinho valuing the player less than his current club do.
The Portuguese manager had publicly stated his desire to bring in two new faces but did admit he’d probably only get one and that one could be Alderweireld.
Manchester United’s need for a leader in their defensive backline has been clear for a few seasons and the Tottenham man would certainly address that issue.
