Alexis Sanchez has urged Manchester United to sign “big player” if they want to compete for trophies ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.
The 29-year-old is starting his first full season at Old Trafford and looks sharper than ever before as he was noticeably one of the club’s top performers throughout the pre-season tour of the United States.
He’s expected to be Man United’s main forward in the opening stages of the new season with Romelu Lukaku only just returning from his holidays, and now he’s had his say on the club’s transfer activity.
Speaking ahead of transfer deadline day, Alexis said: “At #mufc we have to sign big players, with experience. Barcelona just signed Arturo Vidal, who is a great player and my team-mate from Chile.
“He is an example of the type of players we need to sign in order to win trophies and compete at the highest level.”
United have been linked with big names such as Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld and Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng over the summer but no move has materialised and Jose Mourinho looks set to be without a new player in his priority position to strengthen.
Alexis will be looking to get his campaign off to a great start against Leicester City tomorrow night as United open the first round of Premier League fixtures at Old Trafford.
